Supported Project: Care to Dance


The Fit Your Mind association develops innovative initiatives to improve the quality of life for people facing mobility, balance or memory difficulties. Through its Care to Dance programme, the association offers adapted dance workshops, accessible to all, and particularly to older people and those with Parkinson’s disease, using an approach that respects each individual’s abilities.


A project to keep moving


The Care to Dance project aims to offer weekly dance classes adapted for older people and those with Parkinson’s disease, as well as their relatives and carers. Designed for people who can no longer take part in traditional dance classes, the sessions will allow everyone to continue experiencing their body in motion, regardless of their level of mobility.


The workshops can be conducted either sitting or standing and will be based on a specific selection of music, promoting coordination, balance, flexibility, muscle strength and fluidity of movement, whilst leaving plenty of scope for creative expression.


The Foundation’s support will help keep fees affordable so that as many people as possible can take part.


Dancing together, building connections


Beyond the physical activity itself, Care to Dance aims to provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages socialising and interaction. The workshops will be genuine opportunities for sharing, where participants can feel valued, build connections with other dancers, and break the isolation often associated with ageing, illness or a loss of independence.


The project will also form part of a wider awareness-raising initiative, notably through activities carried out in partnership with the Flemish Parkinson’s League, to encourage people living with Parkinson’s disease to remain active and maintain their independence.


What the project will achieve


➤ Maintain physical activity and mobility among older people, taking their abilities into account.

➤ Improve balance, coordination and spatial awareness, helping to prevent falls.

➤ To stimulate the senses, creativity and joie de vivre through dance and music.

➤ To boost self-confidence and a sense of belonging to a group.

➤ To combat social isolation by offering regular group sessions.

➤ To ensure the workshops are affordable so that they remain open to all.
