Association: Neighbors and Care

Supported Project: Innovative and Supportive End-of-Life Care at Home

Our foundation supports the Neighbors & Care association, which is introducing an innovative approach to home-based palliative care in France, centered on proximity and comprehensive support for people at the end of life and their loved ones.

In France, nearly 400,000 people need palliative care each year, but 75% do not have access to it. Yet, the majority of French people express the wish to be able to remain at home in their final moments, surrounded by their loved ones. Due to a lack of suitable solutions, many patients are still forced into repeated hospitalizations, often experienced as painful.

It is this need that Neighbors & Care addresses by developing local teams capable of intervening directly in the homes of people at the end of life and their caregivers. These teams bring together doctors, nurses, psychologists, and trained volunteers to offer comprehensive care: pain relief, psychological support, human companionship, and social assistance. Together, they provide holistic care: physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. They support approximately 20 people per year and their families in each area where they operate. This approach allows seniors to spend their final moments at home, in familiar surroundings, surrounded by their loved ones.

The results are significant:

  • 62% of those supported by Voisins & Soins were able to die at home (compared to 33% nationally).

  • More than 9 out of 10 caregivers recommend this support.

  • 85% of family members report that their loved one felt more supported.

  • Hospitalizations are reduced by half.

Beyond medical support, Voisins & Soins (Neighbors & Care) restores dignity, attentive listening, and solidarity to the heart of life's final moments. By supporting this project, the On Seniors' Side Foundation helps break down isolation, alleviate suffering, and restore dignity to thousands of families facing end-of-life challenges.
