Association: A Shopping Bag for a Student

Supported Project: Solidarity Mentoring

The association "One Shopping Bag for One Student" connects a family with a student facing financial hardship in the same city to provide support and build a relationship. The mentor commits to supporting the student throughout the academic year by regularly providing them with shopping bags and being there for them (meetings, invitations, moral support, shared leisure activities, etc.).

A project that bridges generations and supports students

✦ With its new project alongside ours, the association is implementing a local mentoring program that connects:

  • 1 student experiencing food insecurity and isolation

  • 1 committed senior citizen

Each pair builds a relationship based on two essential pillars:

-> Food assistance: shopping bags are regularly provided to the student, without any monetary donation.

-> Social connection: time spent together, moral support, invitations and cultural outings, all contributing to a genuine and lasting human bond.

Benefits for all generations

This mentoring program isn't just for students. The seniors involved, whose average age is 60, also benefit from this relationship:

  • Maintaining physical and mental activity through regular meetings

  • Reduced stress and isolation

  • A sense of purpose and empowerment

  • Transmission of values and knowledge to young people

  • Openness to the world and motivation to get involved

Thus, the project creates a truly virtuous circle, where solidarity, learning, and intergenerational exchange mutually reinforce each other.

How does our support contribute to the project?

Our initiative will fund:

  • Connecting students with mentors (recruitment, follow-up by phone and in person every two weeks)

  • Community building through the organization of six meetings between mentors to strengthen connections and share experiences

In concrete terms…

Thanks to this program, 40 seniors and their student mentees will be able to forge strong bonds throughout the academic year. The association thus promotes the fight against poverty, while creating enriching and lasting human connections.

➤ We are proud to support this meaningful project and are convinced that it will benefit many students and seniors in the Hauts-de-France region.
