With "Together Wise," Uilenspel aims to harness the power of intergenerational exchange. This involves senior citizens as volunteers within the organization, allowing them to use their life experience and time to support children facing social vulnerability. This project not only strengthens children's developmental opportunities but also enhances social connections and the well-being of older adults.

Association: Uilenspel vzw

Supported Project: Together Wise – Seniors and children growing together

The "Together Wise" project aims to bridge the generation gap and create a positive impact for both children and older adults. We connect older adults with families experiencing social vulnerability within the same neighborhood.

To achieve this, three key pillars are:

– Encouraging intergenerational learning: Learning doesn't just happen at school, but at all levels of society. Older adults have a wealth of experience and skills to share with children. By involving them in Uilenspel as volunteers, children receive additional support in their academic skills while learning life wisdom, social skills, and cultural traditions. The older adults, meanwhile, discover a different world and gain a new perspective on their community.

– Combating loneliness among the elderly: Many older adults want to remain active but struggle to find the right opportunities. This project offers them a warm and meaningful activity where they interact regularly with children and their families. This keeps them engaged, valued, and part of an involved community.

– Children growing up in vulnerable environments do not always receive the support they need to fully develop their talents. By pairing them with older volunteers, they receive additional guidance in a fun and accessible way, which improves their self-confidence and academic progress, thus increasing their future prospects. The volunteers themselves actively contribute to society.
