Association: Le Rocher

Supported Project: Shared Meals

Shared Meals is an initiative led by the association "Le Rocher" in the Pile neighborhood of Roubaix. Its objective is simple and essential: to create opportunities for intergenerational encounters and exchanges around a meal prepared and shared together.

Every Thursday, as well as on certain Sundays throughout the year, residents, volunteers, and members of the Le Rocher team gather to cook and share a convivial lunch. These meals, organized with and for the residents of the neighborhood, bring together 30 to 40 people on Thursdays and up to 80 people on special Sundays. They promote social interaction by also welcoming guests from outside the neighborhood and offering a space for fellowship, discovering others, and cultural exchange.`

Over the months, the impact of these meals has been particularly noticeable among seniors and isolated individuals. For many, it's a vital breath of fresh air: getting out of the house, meeting neighbors, reconnecting with old acquaintances, and rediscovering the joy of social life. These meals also offer the opportunity to enjoy a balanced meal, something that is sometimes rare in their daily lives. For those with mobility issues, the Rocher team also offers a home pick-up service.

In total, nearly 1,900 meals are served each year, with over 60% benefiting seniors. These convivial moments foster intergenerational and intercultural connections: participants, aged 10 to 86, cook and share together in a spirit of solidarity.

The added value of the project is clear: combating loneliness, sharing joy, strengthening family and interpersonal bonds, and creating lasting friendships. Several accounts show that these meetings gave rise to genuine friendships, which continue well beyond the meals at the Rocher.
