Supported Project: Inclusive respite activities and a resource center for caregivers and vulnerable individuals
A living heritage dedicated to respite and social connection
The Chartreuse de Neuville association is transforming a heritage site into a place of respite, culture, and inclusive encounters.
Since 2019, the association has been developing innovative activities for caregivers and vulnerable individuals: artistic and cultural workshops, cooking days in the garden, short respite stays, and awareness events on healthy aging. These initiatives allow caregivers to take a break, maintain social connections, and enrich their cultural lives, while offering stimulating experiences to seniors, the sick, or people with disabilities in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Key initiatives include:
Leisure Time Workshops: cultural and creative activities bringing together seniors, caregivers, and isolated individuals from the local community.
Cooking days in the garden: convivial gatherings for caregiver-care recipient couples around a culinary activity in the open air.
Respite stays: 3-day breaks in an inspiring setting, to recharge together.
Themed days: meetings to collectively reflect on the challenges of a more supportive and inclusive society.
With the upcoming opening of 15 on-site accommodations, 10 of which are accessible to people with reduced mobility, La Chartreuse will be able to expand its respite services on a large scale starting in the fall of 2025, and welcome even more families, caregiver-care recipient couples, and diverse groups of people.
Each year, nearly 200 seniors already benefit from these activities, alongside many other groups (younger caregivers, people with disabilities, and students in the social work and healthcare fields).
Beyond respite, this project defends a strong vision: not to confine beneficiaries to categories (“illness”, “disability”, “old age”), but on the contrary to promote the mixing of generations and audiences, in a heritage place that inspires, brings together and restores confidence.
